Our Next Edge-Series Ship Brings New Flex Fuel Engine to the Industry
When we introduce the fifth ship in our revolutionary Edge Series, it will feature the collaborative efforts of its parent company Royal Caribbean Group, technology group Wärtsilä and shipyard Chantiers de L’Atlantique (CdA) to advance the use of alternative fuels for the cruise industry. The ship continues the innovation that debuted with the Edge Series but will also be equipped with a new engine model, along with storage and delivery systems, that will give unmatched fuel flexibility, with the ability to use three types of fuel, including methanol. This level of leadership in eco-friendly travel ensures your corporate gathering is not only productive but also leaves a positive legacy.

Destination Net Zero is our comprehensive vision for how we will achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We will use every tool at our disposal, including industry-leading energy efficiency and innovative machine-learning technologies to advance our path and role in achieving net zero. As part of our commitment, we plan to introduce a net zero emissions cruise ship by 2035. Destination Net Zero builds on the progress we’ve already made and will include an industry-first pledge to the rigorous Science Based Targets initiative.
Plastic Straw Free since 2019
Celebrity Cruises eliminated plastic straws fleetwide, as part of a comprehensive plastic elimination program. Since 2019, we only offer paper straws as opposed to plastic.

Save the Waves is the foundation of our environmental initiatives. It began in 1992 and evolved from a recycling program to a company-wide philosophy. It has become an integral part of each crew member’s job and is the backbone of daily operations.
Go Green
Go Green is the latest addition to our existing Save the Waves program. Our new housekeeping initiative allows you to earn rewards while reducing your footprint. Opt-in for reduced housekeeping services to conserve energy and resource consumption. You’ll still experience the highest standards of cleanliness, plus the added flexibility of choosing your preferred time of service -all while traveling more responsibly.

Environmental Stewardship
We don’t just love visiting here – we are passionate about preserving it. In fact, we’ve done so much to leave these islands virtually untouched that Ecuador’s Secretary of Tourism holds Celebrity Cruises® as the standard of excellence for reducing our carbon footprint.
As sustainable as it is stunning, Celebrity Flora® uses advanced technology to sail in harmony with its environment. A dynamic positioning system protects the seabed by allowing the ship to stay in place without anchors. Reverse osmosis turns sea water into all the fresh water we need. Flora’s also the first ship of its size to have solar panels, which supplement the electric supply and reduce emissions. And non-toxic silicone paint helps the hull glide more smoothly through the water with less fuel.
The Galapagos Fund
With the creation of The Galapagos Fund, we give our guests the opportunity to have a direct and lasting impact on the preservation of the rare and species-rich marine, wildlife, and plant ecosystem. Since 2006, Celebrity and our guests have contributed over $1.5 million to this fund and other projects in the islands.
Rewilding the Galapagos
Together with Galapagos National Park, we lead a reforestation project on Santa
Cruz Island, the only one of its kind. With the help of our guests, we’ve restored over 75 acres and planted over 85,000 endemic trees, which play a vital role in the island’s ecosystem.
Supporting the next generation of Galapagos Researchers
Royal Caribbean Group has donated $600,000 to the University of North Carolina Center for Galapagos Studies and San Francisco University in Quito. These funds will help expand several vital projects in connection with the only university science center in the islands. That includes supporting student researchers in the field, relaunching a project that trains and employs locals to collect invaluable genetic samples, as well as funding innovative community projects aimed at improving the economy and environment together.
Low-Impact Travel
Celebrity Flora® is making its mark by leaving less of a footprint. From the anchorless positioning system to the sustainably sourced Ecuadorian chocolates on your pillows, every detail big and small has been thought of with the environment in mind. In partnership with University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Celebrity Flora is the first ship in the Galapagos Islands to be equipped with cutting-edge oceanographic equipment called Oceanscope.
The “Daily Catch”
Through the Galapagos Celebrity Fund, we worked with the local community to open a fishing co-op, which provides fishermen with a safe, clean processing plant to prepare, store, and sell their catch. We even serve local fishermen’s deliciously fresh daily catch on board.
